Which monetization method should I use: Paywall or Dynamic Video Sales?

Understand when to use Paywalls vs. Dynamic Video Sales (DVS) to maximize your revenue.

Updated this week

Overview

MediaZilla offers two ways to monetize your content: Paywalls and Dynamic Video Sales (DVS). Each serves a different purpose, and the right choice depends on your business model, event type, and sales strategy.

Paywalls

A Paywall sells access to the entire video or presentation from a dedicated purchase page.

  • Includes a description, background image, and optional preview video.

  • The customer gets full access after purchase.

  • Content is tied securely to their free MediaZilla account and viewable in the MediaZilla app or web.

Best for:

  • Performances with many potential viewers (dance recitals, theater shows, concerts).

  • Projects where you want to sell all content upfront at a single price.

Dynamic Video Sales (DVS)

DVS allows you to sell individual add-ons inside a presentation. Clients might receive base content for free (or included in their package) and can purchase extras.

  • Items can include additional edits, raw footage, highlight reels, or even external links (e.g., Dropbox/Google Drive folders).

  • Add-ons can be sold individually or grouped into collections (e.g., all wedding toasts sold together as โ€œToastsโ€).

  • Viewers can preview add-ons with images or videos before deciding to buy.

Best for:

  • Weddings and events where upselling after delivery is a big revenue driver.

  • Giving clients flexibility to buy only what they want.

Choosing Between Them

  • Use a Paywall if you want to sell access upfront to the entire project.

  • Use DVS if you want to upsell additional content after the base delivery.

  • Use both if you want to:

    • Sell access to a performance (Paywall)

    • Upsell extras like behind-the-scenes footage or bonus edits (DVS)
