Access Protection: How It Works

Understand how Access Protection limits viewer accounts to 3 devices to reduce shared access and ensure sales better reflect actual viewership.

Updated today

Access Protection limits how MediaZilla accounts are used across devices.

Viewer accounts can be used on up to 3 devices at a time.

We introduced this based on consistent feedback from members, especially in dance and theater, who noticed that sales don’t always reflect actual viewership. In many cases, audience reach doesn’t match sales volume, which suggests access is being shared beyond the intended audience.

This helps protect the value of your content while keeping control with each account owner.

Key points

  • The 3-device limit applies to viewer accounts

  • Member accounts have higher limits and are not impacted in the same way

  • Each viewer account can be used on up to 3 devices at once

  • If the limit is reached, new logins are blocked

  • The account owner can remove a device to continue

Important

Each account manages its own devices.

  • You can manage devices on your own account

  • Other users manage devices on their own accounts

  • You cannot see or control devices on another person’s account

What happens when the limit is reached

If a viewer tries to log in on a new device after reaching the limit:

  1. The login is blocked

  2. They can request a secure link via email

  3. They remove an existing device

  4. They continue signing in

What counts as a device

  • Each phone, tablet, computer, or TV counts as one device

  • Different browsers on the same computer also count as separate devices

Why does my device still count after logging out

In some cases, sessions remain active until they are fully cleared.

If you’ve reached the limit, remove the device from the device management page.
