How do Paywall Links compare to Share Links?

Understand the key differences between Paywall Links and Share Links when distributing your content.

Updated yesterday

MediaZilla provides two primary types of links for sharing content: Paywall Links and Share Links. Both allow you to distribute your videos and presentations, but they differ in how viewers gain access and whether monetization is involved.

Paywall Links

  • Destination: Paywall Links take viewers directly to the purchase page for your video or presentation.

  • Access: To continue, viewers must purchase access through the paywall. Once purchased, the content is unlocked in their free MediaZilla account for lifetime access.

  • Monetization: Fully supported through Stripe Paywall integration.

  • App Support: Since access is tied to the viewer’s account, content can be watched in the MediaZilla app, on any supported device, or via a browser.

Share Links

  • Destination: Share Links take viewers directly to the video or presentation in their browser.

  • Access: By default, anyone with the link can view the content. Optionally, you can enable password protection, requiring viewers to enter a password before watching.

  • Monetization: Monetization is supported, but only through Dynamic Video Sales add-ons (not a paywall).

  • App Support: Share Links are browser-only. They cannot be used in the MediaZilla app but videos can be cast from a browser to a TV.

Where does Email Delivery fit?

Email Delivery is a third distribution method that works alongside both links. It grants recipients free, private access to content in their MediaZilla account and enables viewing through the MediaZilla app. You can combine Email Delivery with Share Links or Paywall Links depending on how you want to distribute access.
