Why Can’t I Add a Video While It’s Transcoding?

Videos must finish transcoding before being added to a presentation to ensure thumbnails, previews, and playback work correctly.

Updated this week

Videos must finish transcoding before they can be added to a presentation. This ensures that all menu features work properly and your viewers have a smooth playback experience.

Why This Matters

If you add a video that hasn’t finished transcoding, the following features won’t work:

  • Scrubbing the video to set a start time

  • Capturing a poster frame for a button thumbnail

  • Displaying the video’s total duration

  • Previewing the video from the presentation editor

Avoiding Playback Issues

If a video failed to transcode after being added to a presentation, it could result in a menu button that never plays correctly. By requiring videos to finish transcoding first, MediaZilla helps you avoid broken buttons and ensures your clients always get a seamless experience.

Tip: Tracking Transcode Progress

You can monitor transcoding status in:

  • The Upload Manager (upper-right of your dashboard)

  • The video’s tile/thumbnail in your dashboard

  • The video picker window when selecting content to add to a menu
