Recommended codecs, bitrates, and file types

Use MP4/MOV with H.264 or H.265. Recommended bitrates: 1080p at 15 Mbps, 4K at 35 Mbps. Audio: AAC-LC, 320 kbps, 48 kHz.

For the fastest processing, efficient quota usage, and best playback experience on MediaZilla, we recommend the following settings when exporting your videos.

Video

  • Container: MP4 or MOV

  • Codec: H.264 (widely compatible) or H.265/HEVC (smaller file sizes, more efficient but slower to encode)

  • Resolution: Upload in HD (1080p) or 4K for the best viewer experience. Lower resolutions are supported but not recommended. Always use even-numbered width and height values.

  • Frame Rate: Export in the same frame rate you filmed in (to avoid stuttering)

Which Codec Should I Use?

  • H.264: Widely supported, faster to export, but produces larger file sizes.

  • HEVC (H.265): More efficient, with similar quality at lower bitrates. This means smaller file sizes and less upload quota usage, though export times may be longer.

πŸ‘‰ For the best balance of quality and efficiency, we recommend HEVC for most uploads, unless you need faster exports or broader compatibility.

Audio

  • Codec: AAC-LC

  • Bitrate: 320 kbps

  • Sample Rate: 48 kHz or lower

Why These Settings?

  • Faster uploads & processing: Smaller, optimized files encode more quickly.

  • Efficient quota usage: H.265 in particular reduces file size without sacrificing quality.

  • Smooth playback: Matching frame rates prevents jitter or dropped frames.
